i've never been to the moon | Angel Club (north)

12 men have walked on the moon. 9 are still alive, the youngest is 71. Soon no one on Earth will know the dizzy thrill of weightlessness, whilst gazing back at the world they left behind - Planet Earth. The Apollo programme, whether a mythological or real time event, provided the world with 'the most mind-blowing theatre ever created'. A theatre in which the world was offered the unique opportunity to look at itself - literally.

A single performer sits behind a desk, on which there is a laptop filled with lunar facts and figures. Clinical facts provided by NASA scientists, which clash with the frailty of the human condition. A reference point of Planet Earth, no longer then a thumb is projected behind. Gravity has switched off with the Sun. On the near side of the moon one woman is following the course set by the moonwalkers. A path that leads to self discovery and extraordinary happenings, from which there is no way back.

I've Never Been To The Moon is an interdisciplinary piece of work in which projected video, live performance and sound are blended with the encounters of the moon walkers and their lives after their out of this world experience.

The work premiered at Blue4, The Royal Exchange Studio, Manchester in 2006
